You saw a tick, maybe one already bit you or your beloved pet. You’re probably wondering if you should be alarmed because of the bite or if you should be taking any measures right away. Ticks are known to carry bacteria that can cause Lyme Disease. Typically, this bacteria can be found in wild mammals such as mice, deer and other four legged furry animals in the wild. The ticks basically feed off from these mammals and then feed on humans next which causes the transfer of the bacteria.

We know, you probably won’t see any tick biting you at the moment they are. It’s because they are so small that you might have probably seen one but just shrugged it off because they looked like a small spec of dirt on your skin. Ticks that are not fully grown yet are called nymphs and these are about the size of a very small poppy seed. Adult ticks on the other hand are almost the size of a sesame seed. Which makes it very easy to overlook them. A lot of Lyme Disease victims would not have any memory of being bitten by ticks simply because of their size! The good news though is that there are only a number of ticks that carry the Lyme Disease. But it still pays to be careful, right?

The signs and symptoms of a Lyme disease can be shown in different parts of the human body. It can affect only the nervous system, the heart, the skin, the joints or even just the muscles of a person. While there are three stages as to how the symptoms of Lyme Disease are classified, here are some of it:

A circular skin rash. And no, we’re not just talking about a simple Skin Rash but we’re talking about a dart board type of skin rash. This rash will usually appear after a week of the tick bite and it is usually the first sign of Lyme Disease. Although, many people do not have this type of skin reactions when transmitted with Lyme bacteria.

Other symptoms may include irregularity of heartbeat, dizziness, headache, paralysis and even meningitis. Moreover, if left untreated, tick bites or Lyme bacteria is known to have severe and dangerous effect on other organs such as kidneys and heart of the victim.

The good news is though, Lyme disease can easily be treated with antibiotic. This disease should be dealt with immediately after the discovery because a Lyme disease posing third stage symptoms may be even more complicated and has more severe and negative effects to the internal organs which can ultimately cause death if not given attention to.

While there is a cure to Lyme Disease, we believe that it is still better to have it prevented than to let it happen to anyone you probably already know.
