Cockroaches Allergies Can Trigger Asthma

|

Cockroaches are not only ugly and unwelcome, but they can also trigger asthma attacks. To be sure, there are many other triggers, like tobacco smoke, pets, smoke from burning wood or grass, outdoor air pollution, mold, food, and food additives that can also trigger asthma attacks. For this article, we will talk about cockroach-triggered asthma.

Asthma is a disease that affects the lungs. Its symptoms include wheezing, breathlessness, coughing, chest tightness, and nighttime and early morning coughing. There is currently no cure for it, but the symptoms can be prevented by avoiding the triggers.

Cockroach Allergy

All of us can claim that we are allergic to cockroaches, that is why we are scared sick of them. But there are people who are really allergic to cockroaches. Cockroaches contain a protein that is an allergen to many people. When we say allergen, it is a substance that can cause an allergic reaction. These proteins are found in their saliva and excrement. Cockroach allergy can trigger asthma attacks. Children are affected much worse than adults.

If your allergic reactions come from cockroaches, then you should make sure you reduce the causes of your allergic reactions in the first place. Unfortunately, we cannot change our allergic sensitivities, so the best thing to do is eliminate, or at least lessen, our exposure to allergens.

Symptoms of Cockroach Allergy

Cockroach allergy symptoms include itchy, red, or watery eyes; sneezing; runny nose; itchy nose, mouth, or throat; skin rash; ear infections; wheezing; sneezing; and coughing.

Treatment

The best step is to avoid the cause altogether. Limit your exposure to cockroaches, and you limit the symptoms. Here are some tips that you can do to prevent cockroaches from infesting your home:

  • Keep your house clean and tidy. Cockroaches love filth. That is the condition they thrive on. If you clean your house regularly, then there is no reason for the cockroaches to stay.
  • Cover your trash cans. Your trash can is a treasure trove of food for the cockroaches. Cover it, and you remove one of their food sources.
  • Store your food in airtight containers.
  • Wipe off food crumbs or spilled beverages on your dining table, stove top, and floor. Again, this is free food for the roaches.
  • For the worst cases, call Go-Forth Home Services Company. Your roach problems will be as good as solved.
